The Register has been in existence since 1997 and was previously known as the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP). It is governed by the Register Advisory Board, which is chaired by Professor Ed Sallis OBE.
The Register is a list of BACP members who have met the standards for registration.
BACP's voluntary register has been accredited under a new scheme set up by the Department of Health and administered by an independent body, accountable to Parliament. All registrants are bound by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling & Psychotherapy.
In addition, all registrants are required to be in regular supervision and to undertake appropriate continuing professional development. Some registrants have also sought a higher level of quality assurance through the BACP accreditation scheme and those members are clearly marked as 'accredited' on the Register.
